
As insurance claims resulting from water damage to buildings continue to increase in both frequency and severity due to unpredictable weather events, as well as factors related to construction, materials and lack of maintenance, Arcon’s Structural Forensic Engineers are increasingly called upon to investigate and diagnose the building envelope failures that led to the claim. Where the building envelope failure is the result of a construction or product deficiency, the expertise of a Structural Forensic Engineer is frequently required to settle the resulting commercial litigation.
This presentation provides insight as to how building envelope failures arise, the symptoms that are often evident in the primary types of failures and how the failures are investigated. Since we are focused on building envelope failures, we are dealing with water infiltration from the exterior of the structure.
